Chipotle Black Bean Burgers (Printable)

# What You Need:

→ Beans & Vegetables

01 - 1 (15 oz) can black beans, drained and rinsed
02 - 1/2 cup red bell pepper, finely diced
03 - 1/2 cup red onion, finely diced
04 - 2 cloves garlic, minced

→ Binding & Dry Ingredients

05 - 3/4 cup rolled oats
06 - 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
07 - 1 large egg (or flax egg: 1 tbsp ground flaxseed mixed with 3 tbsp water, rested 5 minutes)

→ Flavorings

08 - 1 to 2 chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, minced
09 - 1 tbsp adobo sauce
10 - 1 tsp ground cumin
11 - 1 tsp smoked paprika
12 - 1/2 tsp chili powder
13 - 1/2 tsp salt
14 - 1/4 tsp black pepper
15 - 1 tbsp fresh cilantro, chopped (optional)
16 - Juice of 1/2 lime

→ For Serving

17 - 4 burger buns
18 - Lettuce leaves
19 - Sliced tomato
20 - Sliced avocado

# How-To:

01 - In a large bowl, mash the black beans using a fork or potato masher, leaving some texture.
02 - Add red bell pepper, red onion, garlic, rolled oats, breadcrumbs, egg or flax egg, chipotle peppers, adobo sauce, cumin, smoked paprika, chili powder, salt, black pepper, cilantro, and lime juice. Mix thoroughly until evenly combined.
03 - Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a burger patty.
04 - Heat a large nonstick skillet or grill pan over medium heat and lightly oil the surface.
05 - Cook the patties for 4 to 5 minutes on each side until golden brown and heated through.
06 - Toast buns if desired. Assemble patties with lettuce, tomato, avocado, and preferred toppings.
