- Flavorings: 1-2 chipotle peppers in adobo sauce minced (adjust to taste), 1 tbsp adobo sauce (from the chipotle can), 1 tsp ground cumin, 1 tsp smoked paprika, 1/2 tsp chili powder, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp black pepper, 1 tbsp fresh cilantro chopped (optional), Juice of 1/2 lime
- For Serving: 4 burger buns, Lettuce leaves, Sliced tomato, Sliced avocado, Optional cheese slices pickled onions mayonnaise mustard

- In a large bowl mash the black beans with a fork or potato masher leaving some texture.
- Mix ingredients:
- Add the bell pepper red onion garlic oats breadcrumbs egg (or flax egg) chipotle peppers adobo sauce cumin smoked paprika chili powder salt pepper cilantro and lime juice Mix thoroughly until combined.
- Form patties:
- Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into burger patties.
- Heat skillet:
- Heat a large nonstick skillet or grill pan over medium heat Lightly oil the surface.
- Cook patties:
- Cook the patties for 4β5 minutes per side until golden brown and heated through.
- Assemble burgers:
- Toast the buns if desired Assemble the burgers with lettuce tomato avocado and any desired toppings.
